#1 Why is Nutrition So Confusing? with Wendy Myers
Wendy Myers, CHHC, certified health and nutrition coach, breaks down why nutrition is so confusing. When I first started studying nutrition, I didn’t know what to believe. I would read one theory in nutrition that was proven and then read the exact opposite — that was totally proven. This podcast serves to help you understand why there is so much conflicting information.

Should I do Paleo or go vegetarian? What is the best diet to lose weight? Low fat used to be the buzzword, but now it’s all about low carb. Don’t use sugar and then don’t use artificial sweeteners. Now fruit has too much sugar to be healthy. It’s enough to make you crazy!
In my years of study, I have fallen victim to a lot of wrong ideas about diet. A lot of information on nutrition is misguided, outdated, and outright lies. Some books I read were merely a pitch for an author’s supplements or biased toward a diet that worked for the author, which will not work for everyone. Many books promoted diets that current research show to be dangerous or unhealthy. With so much wrong information, you need to arm yourself with a little knowledge so you can decipher BS when you read it.
Some great topics I cover in this episode:
- How we all have different nutritional requirements,
- How Books make things more confusing,
- Doctors don’t usually know much about nutrition,
- News is not a reliable nutrition information source,
- Bad Science,
- Study Weaknesses,
- Fraud in Research.

Hi Wendy, have seen various articles, YouTube videos, etc that you have done and wonder if you could expand on your reasoning why Brown Rice should not be consumed???? Thanks in advance for any reply…
It can still be consumed. It’s just that white rice is the least correlated with disease per The China Study. You can also find more reasoning in the phenomenal book The Perfect Health Diet.
The rice bran is what contains the toxins in grains. So, my eliminating the bran, you have a less toxic grain. But brown rice every once in a while will probably not kill you! It’s just that rice in a fairly low nutrient food so I would not be eating brown rice with the logic that it’s so much healthier than white.
