A Day in Your Toxic Life

Let me take you on a walk through your daily life so you can picture just how toxic modern life has become. The average person has 700 synthetic chemicals in their body. You must detox these chemicals from your body.

Have you ever wondered why everyone is so sick or why statistics show that fifty percent of men get cancer and thirty percent of women get cancer? Or that ten percent of people have an autoimmune disorder or another ten percent are on antidepressants? What about the millions of people suffering from all the other maladies? It’s not surprising to me. Most illnesses have causes to which few are paying attention. Our bodies reach a point where they become so polluted they are no longer able to defend themselves or work properly. How does this happen?

Let’s take a look at how our bodies accumulate toxins on a daily basis…

A Day in Your Toxic Life

You awaken from sleeping on a mattress that was coated with flame-retardant chemicals emitting formaldehyde gas and a carcinogenic brominated substance, which your body readily absorbs all night. Drinking water from a plastic bottle, you instead hydrate your body with phthalates that cause cancer and infertility. Walking barefoot toward the bathroom on synthetic carpet, your skin absorbs benzene, styrene, and several other cancer-causing chemicals used to treat the carpet.

Once in the bathroom, you splash your face with tap water laced with fluoride and chlorine, both carcinogens to the human body. You open a plastic bottle of Listerine mouthwash (or similar brand) and gargle a half dozen flavoring and coloring chemicals. You pick up your cancer-causing fluoride Crest toothpaste, full of all kinds of toxic ingredients including titanium dioxide, aspartame, and artificial coloring.

You raise your arms and apply deodorant, which contains seven chemicals, including aluminum, parabens (a hormone-disrupting preservative), propylene glycol (a lubricant and suspected cancer agent), carcinogenic phthalates to hold fragrance and color, and a hundred different chemicals disguised under the name ‘fragrance.’ According to the FDA, we average using nine personal-care products daily, containing about 126 chemical ingredients. Body lotions contain penetration-enhancing chemicals that can drive toxins from other toiletries deeper into your flesh.

Finally, you pull out numerous prescription medications (with warning labels attached) and swallow this mixture of synthetic chemicals. Then you pee it out into the toilet and ultimately back into tap water for others to unwittingly drink. Municipal water sources do not test or filter for medications in tap water. All the while you have been breathing benzene fumes (capable of causing leukemia) from that deodorizer you installed under the commode seat lid.

Walking back to the bedroom, you put on clothes fresh from the dry cleaner rife with fumes and residues of trichloroethylene and n-hexane, chemicals known to cause nerve cell damage, memory loss, cardiac abnormalities and cancer. If your clothing is made of synthetic fibers, your plastic clothes expose you to plasticizer fumes, for which you get a double bonus of breathing it in and having it soak into your skin. You and your child’s clothes also likely contain flame-retardant chemicals that are notorious releasers of toxic bromine fumes. These block your thyroid function and make you tired and fat. The more tightly insulated your bedroom, the greater the outgas collection of the chemicals from your furniture, paint, rugs and carpeting, and the greater the impact on your brain, with symptoms like mood swings, feelings of spaciness, headaches, and an inability to concentrate.

Rushing into the kitchen, you pour yourself a quick bowl of cereal containing genetically modified corn or soy, high fructose corn syrup, which contains heavy metals, and nearly a dozen synthetic chemical food additives. While eating, you turn on the dishwasher and expose yourself to a cloud of chlorine fumes.

You fix yourself a sandwich for lunch with luncheon meat that contains nitrates, synthetic hormones, and antibiotics. You coat the aluminum-tainted bread with mayonnaise that is made with genetically modified soybean oil. Then you wrap the sandwich in Saran Wrap, which contains vinyl chloride, a carcinogen known to cause liver, brain, and lung cancers and is one of the deadliest man-made materials. You throw in a diet coke for your lunch, which contains the deadly sweetener aspartame — linked to cancer, headaches, allergies and seizures. You don’t even question the safety of diet coke because you’ve been drinking it for decades.

Barely into the first hour of your day, you haven’t even left your house and you’ve been absorbing hundreds of synthetic chemicals. You haven’t even yet walked outside to encounter the harshest toxins in our air, generated by car exhaust and manufacturing. Don’t forget about the toxins waiting for you at your workplace, at lunch, and in the fast food and processed snacks you will be enthusiastically devouring all day.

Given all these scary facts, a healthy diet won’t save you. Many people go vegetarian or vegan thinking that this will prevent cancer or heart attacks, but the reality is that this is not insurance against many dreaded diseases. Most vegetarians, while they may avoid toxins found in meats and fish, have difficulty detoxing toxic metals. These diets are too low in the sulfur-containing amino acids and other nutrients needed to detox. These diets place them in an even more vulnerable position in our toxic world. I definitely recommend meat and eggs to assist the liver in detoxification. For information on the best diet for the majority of people, see The Modern Paleo Diet.

It sounds hopeless, but there are a few ways you can rid your body of the unprecedented number of chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis. Our ancient bodies are very good at detoxing, but we were not built to metabolize all these man-made chemicals out of our bodies. We need assistance with the ever-increasing burden we face as companies produce new chemicals every day. I believe detoxing should be one of your first priorities if you want to achieve optimal health.

How to Detox – A Primer

Infrared Saunas. Scientific evidence shows that thousands of drugs, food additives, pesticides, and other pollutants remain stored in the body long after exposure. Phthalates, found in fragrance and plastics, are the most common pollutant in our bodies. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, over 500 chemicals have been detected in human tissue. A sauna is one of the only effective methods of removing toxins from the body. The sauna should be done every day for a year, then twice a week for maintenance. For more information, see my article Infrared Saunas.

Coffee Enemas. All toxins must be processed by your liver, which is why all livers are overloaded with toxins. Coffee enemas provide a means for your liver to ‘dump’ its toxic load into the intestines for elimination. They also increase a powerful antioxidant called glutathione by 700%, which assists in carrying heavy metals out of the body. It is an incredibly effective tool to detoxify your body. Coffee Enemas should be done roughly every day to every other day for two years, then once a week after that. For more information, see my article on Coffee Enemas.

Supplements. Your body must have certain nutrients available to carry toxins and heavy metals out of the body. The most important for detoxing are vitamin C, glutathione, and R-lipoic acid. Without these nutrients, your detoxification efforts can result in toxins and heavy metals building up in your liver, intestines, and kidneys with no means of exit, causing illness, organ failure and even death. These supplements can be taken daily. Additionally, we need to supplement the major vitamins and minerals daily to assist in detoxification. See all the detox supplements you need in the Myers Detox Store.

If you’re really serious about detoxing all the metals and chemicals you encounter on a daily basis, I recommend CytoDetox Zeolite.

CytoDetox supports the body to naturally capture and eliminate toxins throughout the body. Unlike other detox products, these drops contain 100% natural binders that hold on to toxins tightly, delivered through a patent pending Liposomal Cellular Transport Technology. The CytoDetox® detoxification formula provides a quick and safe whole-body detoxification support formula, and is unlike any other product available on the market. Learn more >

Juicing. Juicing is a wonderfully nutritious way of providing your body with minerals and other nutrients. Juices are one of the best ways to detox from heavy metals and a ton of other chemicals and poisons with no side effects or harmful complications. Thousands of people have healed themselves from cancer and other deadly diseases with this simple, time-honored remedy. While juicing has many benefits, like concentrated nutrition, juicing can cause a rise in blood sugar and upsets the digestive tract in many people. You should not exceed drinking more than 16 ounces a day, unless you have a disease like cancer from which you are healing. For more information, see my article The Juice on Juicing.

Hair Mineral Analysis. A Hair Mineral Analysis (or HTMA) is the simple way to tell you what’s really happening in our body.* If you currently battle with your weight, energy, brain fog, mood, hair, skin, or ANY other health problem — this simple hair test is what you need to do.

The test will reveal what heavy metals are in your body, as well as your mineral deficiencies and which minerals you need (or don’t need) to supplement. Learn more here.

Have I left anything out of this article? Are you on a detox program? How is it working? Tell me your story by leaving a comment.

*Please note that A Hair Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, reverse, or prevent any disease. It is not intended to replace any other medical test(s) that may be prescribed by your medical doctor.

Good Job Wendy, quite terrifying really.

So, how do you feel about wood floors or the fake grass floors?

Seems cool and at least somewhat safer.

Wood floors are great! I have bamboo in my home. Best to nail it down with nails rather than toxic glue. I’d say no on the fake grass floors because they’re made of plastic. Don’t want to be touching soft plastics full of phthalates if you can help it. Thanks for your support!

I love this article, I linked back to it on my blog as well. Its scary to think about all of the information put forth here, and also in the book Clean by Dr. Junger (have you read it?)

You wrote it very poetically as well!
